I'm already there after retiring last summer. I'm currently at about 3x of my current expenses in passive income. People understand the math but let fear guide them and thus worry about "when is enough". It's an interesting thing to see that should be worked through with a therapist.
Enjoyed the episode. I think it’s harder than I expected to give up the big paycheck. I have cut back to working less and am trying to spend more while I am still working to get me in that mindset. Also, because by the time I RE I will have more than I need.
My last thoughtfully reckless purchase is related to my book. I'm up to $5500 sunk into a writing coach and assistance with pitching an agent! (Although I hope it is more like an investment in hopefully greater returns in the form of a better advance and more book sales down the road)
I don't recall where I heard this discussion. But some podcast referenced how much of life has aspects of a game.
- we spent decades in education where we level up every year.
- then we spent decades working, getting out of debt, saving, establishing a home and carrying for family. Which had it's own rules to follow.
- now in FI. We can decide to continue to follow those other's rules. To continue to accumulate, or to spend more, or whatever. Or we can decide what rules we want to live by.
Path to Purpose Coaching
Over the last year, writing my new book The Purpose Code, I have spent a huge amount of time thinking about, writing about, and discussing purpose. I have offered one-on-one and group coaching to my mastermind group, Wealth With Purpose. These discussions stem from my real life encounters with dying hospice patients as well as the numerous interactions I have had with people after reading Taking Stock.
What I've found is that most of us who listen to the Earn & Invest Podcast struggle with three basic issues:
How do I define purpose in my life?
How do I transition to a more fulfilling career?
What is enough money look like? Enough life?
To help navigate these waters, I have decided to offer the Path to Purpose coaching program. This is one-on-one coaching with me to help you further define purpose, direction, and career. Sessions will be spread over five weeks with a goal to provide a more concrete and enjoyable path to crack the purpose code and start living your life now whether you are broke, pre financial independence, financially independent, or beyond.
